Color practice

So this was a painting exercise I gave myself mostly to see how well and how quickly I could match color and light from an image. I estimate I spent around an hour or so on this drawing. The challenge I gave myself was to not ever sample color from the original photo and simply see how well I could match with just my own eye, also I painted my version entirely on one layer to keep the challenge pure and not using any cheats.

After stepping back and exiting "the zone" I can easily see what I need to work on in terms of training my eye. The biggest things I noticed were:
-Overall I tend to shift hues way too much towards yellow
-I get muddy with my colors rather than keeping them simple and pure
-I soften the light too much and shy away from hard terminators
-I also seem too shy away from heavy saturation and also dark darks and bright whites

With these issues in mind I will work on another photo referenced one hour color study and see how much I can improve. Stay tuned guys!
